What is the best way to thaw homemade baby food?

I’ve read enough about making baby food to know most moms seem to agree the easiest method is to make big batches and freeze it in serving sized cubes. Just one question- what method is best to thaw out the food at feeding time? It seems microwaving would defeat the purpose of making ‘better’ baby food. Do you thaw it in the fridge overnight? Put it in a saucepan with a little water? Some other method I haven’t thought of…?
