How old was your baby when they could feed themselves small pieces of food?

My son is 7.5 months old and can feed himself a cracker, but he needs to be fed smaller pieces of food. Today I gave him avocado cut up into small pieces and he would try and pick up as many pieces he could in each hand, but never tried to put any in his mouth. He ended up picking up six pieces in one hand. He had a great time smashing it all up and making a big mess, but didn’t try to feed himself any of it. How old was your baby when they could feed themselves small pieces of food like that?

At what age did you start giving your baby more food and less formula?

My daughter is 7 months old, and I want to start giving her more food, either jar or homemade and start cutting down her formula consumption. How much do I cut the formula down to and how much food do I give her?

He is just now 6 months and I’ve started him on 2nd stage food veggies and fruits, but I wasn’t sure how long I need to wait until I start with the baby foods that mix in meats. Thanks!

What age did you start your baby on 1st stage baby food? My son is almost (in a few days) 5 months old (I know its a little early but he eats so much formula, I thought I might try and see how he takes it, and maybe supplement a bottle or two with the baby food) and I’ve started giving it to him, and he was doing really well until I gave him carrots. I think that may have constipated him. So when did you start feeding your baby the 1st stage baby foods, and what foods did they like or dislike, or had negative reactions to?

My daughter is almost 3 1/2 months old and I notice that when I begin to eat in front of her she is expressing an interest in what I have on my plate. For example she begins to cry when she watches me eat. Sometimes depending on what I’m eating I’ll give her a bite. Can anyone tell me if I should begin her on baby food and if so what should I be giving. Peas, bananas? What? Is it healthier for me to make my own?
