There are so many baby food makers out on the market, it can be hard to spot the different features and hence decide which one to go for.

That’s the first thing you notice about the Wean Machine, it stands out immediately. The bright yellow packaging gives a feeling of fun, the images and text are bold and clear, and a diagram shows the three basic stages of use: fill, squeeze and feed. The whole package entices you to look further.

Another thing you notice is that it’s not electrical. No need for power or batteries, which makes it truly portable. It’s very light and there are few moving parts, so less to go wrong.

The plastic construction has a very high quality feel to it. The manufacturer has clearly taken a lot of time over the design, with the aim of producing a simple clean product that works well and feels good in your hands.

Included with the Wean Machine itself is a cover, a spoon, and 2 grills (one with large holes, the other with small). It seems that everything you need for feeding on the move is included, so no need to supplement the device with any other items. In fact all of the items clip together into a single easily portable tool.

Instructions come in the form of a small leaflet, and a 10-page chunky cardboard book that is designed to be read by both parent and child together. The book contains a range of recipes and pictures starting with single items, moving next onto combos, and finishing with tips on using the machine with regular family meals. This is another sign that the aim is to make mealtimes fun and educational for the whole family.

Using the Wean Machine is extremely intuitive, and you’ll be making yummy meals very quickly. In principle, it’s a bit like a garlic crusher. First decide which grill to use and clip it on (easy to do as each grill has a notch that acts as a guide). Then fill the bowl with your choice of food. To squish the food, squeeze the grill into the bowl, and voila, it’s done! Baby can be fed straight from the bowl using the included spoon, or you can transfer the squished food onto a plate or other bowl, if you prefer. Once the bowl is empty, you can squish some more, and keep going until baby is full! If you have some food left over, simply clip on the lid and save it for later, or take it with you if you’re on the move. I can see this being very handy for having lunch out or anywhere really, as the whole kit is so portable.

In summary, the Wean Machine is a great way of feeding your baby natural food and is convenient, easy to use, high quality, portable and most of all, fun! Highly recommended.

Major features listed below :-

Makes baby food wherever you are

Easy to use, just fill, squeeze and feed!

Portable, compact and includes spoon

Allergy friendly

Saves time and money – no need to cook extra meals

BPA, Phthalate and PVC Free

Easily sterilised and “top-shelf dishwasher safe”

Not suitable for microwave sterilisation

The Wean Machine can be bought at Amazon.

I’ve tried mashing veggies with a fork and it’s not fine enough (baby gags and sometimes vomits). I need to mush it up better and would like some advice about the type of equipment to use. He’s currently eating baby food from a jar and I’d like to make it fresh. Thanks!

There are many benefits to making your own baby food, and it doesn’t have to be difficult or time consuming. A major advantage is that you can guarantee the quality of the ingredients you use. You can also make large quantities and freeze individual meals to use later, which can be very convenient. Here are some suggestions that will help you on your way to preparing your own baby meals.

Begin with a trip to your local fresh fruit and vegetable store. Babies love fresh food and it’s also very healthy for them. You could even try organic produce – it might not be too expensive when bought in larger quantities. Wash all ingredients well to remove all traces of soil and pesticides.

To preserve all the beneficial vitamins and minerals, use a steamer to cook instead of boiling. Make sure that the fruit or vegetables are soft enough when cooked, especially if baby is young and is new to solid food.

Once the food is cooked, you will need to use a baby food grinder or baby food processor to blend it. These are products designed especially for processing baby food, and give you the right amount of control to vary the consistency. Go for one that is portable but can still blend a good quantity for freezing.

Mix up the cooked food (add some meat if your baby is mature enough) and grind until it reaches the desired consistency, depending on the age of your baby.

Now strain the food so that any small bits such as pips, seeds or peel are removed. The food is now ready to eat! Babies have very sensitive taste buds, so there is no need to add salt or pepper or other flavorings. In fact the baby will enjoy the natural flavors of the fruit or vegetables you have prepared.

The baby meals can now be stored, either in a refrigerator or freezer. Use specific freezer bags or plastic containers designed for storing food. Ice cube trays can be useful as each section can store a small portion of blended food. Once frozen the cubes can be popped out and put into plastic food bags. Make sure the frozen food is heated thoroughly before use, and of course check that it isn’t too hot for baby. Refrigerated food can be heated using a baby food warmer

And finally, vary the meals so that baby experiences a wide range of tastes, as these early experiences go a long way to help baby develop their tastes when older. The more flavors that baby experiences at this stage, the less likely baby will be a fussy eater when older.
