The Wean Machine: Review

There are so many baby food makers out on the market, it can be hard to spot the different features and hence decide which one to go for.
That’s the first thing you notice about the Wean Machine, it stands out immediately. The bright yellow packaging gives a feeling of fun, the images and text are bold and clear, and a diagram shows the three basic stages of use: fill, squeeze and feed. The whole package entices you to look further.
Another thing you notice is that it’s not electrical. No need for power or batteries, which makes it truly portable. It’s very light and there are few moving parts, so less to go wrong.
The plastic construction has a very high quality feel to it. The manufacturer has clearly taken a lot of time over the design, with the aim of producing a simple clean product that works well and feels good in your hands.

Included with the Wean Machine itself is a cover, a spoon, and 2 grills (one with large holes, the other with small). It seems that everything you need for feeding on the move is included, so no need to supplement the device with any other items. In fact all of the items clip together into a single easily portable tool.
Instructions come in the form of a small leaflet, and a 10-page chunky cardboard book that is designed to be read by both parent and child together. The book contains a range of recipes and pictures starting with single items, moving next onto combos, and finishing with tips on using the machine with regular family meals. This is another sign that the aim is to make mealtimes fun and educational for the whole family.
Using the Wean Machine is extremely intuitive, and you’ll be making yummy meals very quickly. In principle, it’s a bit like a garlic crusher. First decide which grill to use and clip it on (easy to do as each grill has a notch that acts as a guide). Then fill the bowl with your choice of food. To squish the food, squeeze the grill into the bowl, and voila, it’s done! Baby can be fed straight from the bowl using the included spoon, or you can transfer the squished food onto a plate or other bowl, if you prefer. Once the bowl is empty, you can squish some more, and keep going until baby is full! If you have some food left over, simply clip on the lid and save it for later, or take it with you if you’re on the move. I can see this being very handy for having lunch out or anywhere really, as the whole kit is so portable.
In summary, the Wean Machine is a great way of feeding your baby natural food and is convenient, easy to use, high quality, portable and most of all, fun! Highly recommended.
