Warming up baby food while on vacation?
Posted by: Baby Food Grinder / Category: baby food questions, baby food warmerWe’re taking a family vacation and I need serious suggestions on how to warm up my son’s baby food. We’ll be gone for 10 or 11 days. I hate that I’m going to have to give him store bought food. I’ve never used store bought baby food. Can he eat it at room temperature without getting sick?

When it is first open he can eat it, but it has to be refrigerated after opening. So I would try to keep it in a cooloer for no longer then a day if its not finished.

If it’s room temperature when you first open it and feed it to him it’s ok, but then it’s only good in the fridge for a day. A lot of hotels have microwaves now. You could also put hot water through the coffee pot and put it in a bowl with the baby food jar. Stir the food and it’ll warm up after like 10 minutes.

Yes.. food is food, no matter who’s eating it. If you can, keep the food in a cooler then let it get room temp and he can eat it from there. I don’t blame you! I didnt do store bought food either!

an alternative might be to get a food mill / baby food grinder & feed him what you eat…
just a thought!!
(if it’s canned & just opened, room temp is fine)

Don’t feel bad about the store bought food… buy the organic stuff if you’re really bothered by it. You can feed at room temperature straight from the jar the first time you open the jar. After that it must be refrigerated. To heat it up how about getting some hot water and letting the food sit (in the jar or bowl) for a few minutes. If you’re on the road, take a wide mouth thermose with hot water. You can pour the water in to the lid and warm the food that way.

If the food has never been opened it can be used at room temp don’t try and save it though. I know people don’t use store bought baby food, I did. I have five kids all who are healthy. I figured it is made for little tummies and never had any problems.

whenever I used store bought baby food, I always just opened the jar and fed it to her. If your son doesn’t eat the whole jar, you can either pitch it, or put it in a fridge or cooler. He can eat the leftovers straight from the cooler/fridge.
How old is your son? Could he possibly start eating some of your dinner instead of jarred food?
