What normal food can I start feeding my 8 month old?

Posted by: Baby Food Grinder  /  Category: baby food questions

What did you feed your infant when they got old enough for solids? I don’t want to feed her our dinners because they have salt or other herbs. If I only give her a little sauce can she have spaghetti? What about olives and stuff. I already know I can give her green beans I just wanted a larger variety. Also she won’t eat any of the meat baby food so I worry she isn’t getting enough protein.

Don’t give her whole olives yet, they are easy to choke on. Just make sure you give her stuff she can easily chew and she won’t choke on. Also, not citrus fruits or tomatoes yet. I would also keep a close eye on eggs (this includes noodles, since many are made with eggs) and make sure she isn’t allergic. Actually, I’d just keep an eye on everything she eats lol My niece used to love just eating pieces of american cheese and those sliced thin deli meats you get at the grocery store. My poor daughter is allergic to cheese though…and hates the meat!

She can have herbs; she can have reasonable amounts of salt. Of course she can have olives. If food allergies are not a concern in your family she can have everything — and I do mean everything; spicy burritos, sushi, etcetera — save honey…

“Ditch the rice cereal and mashed peas, and make way for enchiladas, curry and even — gasp! — hot peppers. It’s time to discard everything you think you know about feeding babies. It turns out most advice parents get about weaning infants onto solid foods — even from pediatricians — is more myth than science.

That’s right, rice cereal may not be the best first food. Peanut butter doesn’t have to wait until after the first birthday. Offering fruits before vegetables won’t breed a sweet tooth. And strong spices? Bring ‘em on.

“There’s a bunch of mythology out there about this,” says Dr. David Bergman, a Stanford University pediatrics professor. “There’s not much evidence to support any particular way of doing things.”"

try to mash up some potato just plain.
i use to work at a Japaneses restaurant and alot of moms ask for cut up tofu for there infants. you might not like tofu too much but babies love them. they are easy to mash up in there little tiny mouth and its good source or protein.

    good luck!

At 8 months, it’s safe to give your baby a wide variety of foods, just stay away from the main allergy causing foods like peanuts, whole milk, shellfish, fish, egg whites.

My baby is 8 months old . She no longer likes pureed baby food and she basically eats what we eat but I take out her portion before I add spices. Pasta is fine. Olives have a lot of salt in them, so I’d be careful of that. Lots of fruits and veggies, just be sure it’s in tiny sizes for her to eat. My little one also eats finger foods like Gerber puffs, biter biscuits, Cheerios.

It’s all in what you’re ready for for the most part, and what types of textures your baby likes.

Have fun, read up on the allergy foods that you should avoid. There are lots of helpful websites like babycenter.com .

I puree everything! My daughter eats stuff that I would never touch like tomatoes for example she loves them. Now that she is 8 months old I make sure that she can feel the texture and really enjoy what she is eating. I understand about the salt but as long as you aren’t drowning your food in salt its ok.

I gave my kids all kinds of home made purees, you can add fish (the kind that does not smell) and even ground meat and chicken to them (put them in the food processor).

You can have potatoes as a base and add different vegetables to them(carrots, peas, green beans, creamy corn, zucchini, broccoli, etc)

I think at 8 months your child is ready for spaghetti, I started solid food at 6 months for my kids.
