How much baby food should a 7 month old be eating a day?
Posted by: Baby Food Grinder / Category: baby food questionsMy baby doesn’t really like to eat baby food. I try to feed him cereal and fruit in the morning, veggies in the afternoon and cereal again in the evening, but almost every day he refuses one or more meals. Also, I breastfeed on demand.

As long as you’re breastfeeding, don’t worry about it! Solids before 12 months are mostly for fun and practice, baby should still get most of their nutrients from you.
My 8, almost 9 month old also still nurses on demand. He has maybe a couple tablespoons of cheeri-os in the morning. He has a few bites of whatever we have for dinner–lentils, veggies, beans, fruits, etc. Sometimes he’ll have a cracker or some little cheese cubes. He doesn’t eat more than about 1/3 c. TOTAL of solids a day. I let him nurse on demand and he calls the shots about how much solids he eats. I figure he’s a smart kid, he knows when he’s hungry. Your job is to offer, his job is to eat as much as he wants (or doesn’t want.)
We don’t do baby cereal, it’s nutritionally worthless. I feed him mostly veggies and fruits, with legumes and real whole grains, and sometimes soft meats. Baby food tastes awful. Why not just let him eat what you eat–provided you eat healthy and are not going to ram fried stuff with gravy down his throat?

Since you are breastfeeding, don’t worry about it. If you are worried give your ped. a call. Otherwise with my baby she eats about 4 oz. of food a day. She is seven months old and eats the gerber food, soon we are going to be off that b/c someone got us an awesome blender for Christmas for her. So I will be making my own. My baby hates the rice cereal…have you ever tried that stuff, it taste well cardboards has more flavor. Don’t force it to baby it takes a lot of practice, just let baby eat a few bites for practice. Mine also hates any green veggies. Try to make your own, google it. Best of luck!
