How did you transition your baby to table food?

Posted by: Baby Food Grinder  /  Category: baby food questions

My baby just turned 9 months. Doc said to start table food and gave some recommendations. She has been on stage 2 and has had some Gerber snack foods. How did you make the transition? Can you give me examples of what you fed your baby for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks? Thanks!

We just started offering finger foods along with jar foods…

Like if I was feeding my baby peas (jar) I would offer real peas as well..

Same with carrots and sweet potatoes.. etc..

Also with fruit.. we did this..

Once my babes were getting most of the finger foods in their mouth I quit with the jar foods then started offering whatever we were eating.. shreds of chicken… grains of rice and etc…

Just start off small, in small pieces, just to get use to it.. eating solid table food is way different than solid jar food..2 of 3 of my babies did great.. my other baby, choked and gagged constantly but then got use to it, we just quit for the day then offered later..

    Best wishes

i haven’t really done a lot of breakfast food but i have done dinner. I started by giving her her regular food, but then I would give her a little bit of our mashed potatoes or some other veggies cut small or smashed, and she REALLY loved noodles!! I’ve also given her little pieces of fish

i would suggest giving him smaller amounts of his regular food and then just introducing him slowly with a few bites or so of what you are eating

Breakast was usually 1/2 mashed banana, oatmeal, sausage, panckaes cut to very small pieces
Lunch was peanut butter and jelly sandwich cut into very small pieces, mac and cheese, you can pretty much feed your nine month old any table food that you eat, just as long as you chop it up fine enough so that it wont get lodged in their throat.

Here is a good page on ideas for finger foods:

You can dice ripe fruit or cooked veggies for good finger foods. Some other good ones are mashed potatoes, small pasta, grilled cheese sandwiches (in bits), toast or pancake sticks, tofu cubes, meat or cheese cubes, fish sticks. She can have things from your dinner cut into small pieces as long as it is cooked soft and there is no extra salt or sugar added. Also, you should still avoid high allergens (nuts, peanut butter, shellfish, strawberries, honey). My daughter is a bit younger, so I have been offering finger foods most just for fun, and sometimes I have to help her by putting the food in her mouth so she gets the idea. I usually give some jar food and then some chunks of the same food at the end or with it – like pieces of banana with her mashed banana, or I squish peas and give them to her along with pea puree. So basically you still give the same kinds of food as you have been, just in a different form.
