I want to make food for my baby, but peaches and pears etc. always turn brown what can I do to stop it? I want to freeze them. Can I use the powder stuff you use when canning these fruits? Is that safe?

Add a few drops of lemon juice to the fruit.
This will stop it going brown.

a bit of lime or lemon juice can stop them going brown!!!!i use it all the time at work in my resturant on things like apples and avacado :>

Add a little bit of lemon juice to a bowl of water and douse the fruit into it immediately after cutting. The fruit turning brown is a result of oxidization which can be postponed by exposing the flesh to citric acid. Works on just about anything that turns brown after cutting.

Do not feed the canning “powder” to your baby.

I know we want the best for our babies but why would you want to go through all that when there are great natural baby foods out there. I would not use any type of canning preservative. You never know how your baby will react to it. Sometimes you can add lemon to keep foods from turning brown. I did my own veggies but left the fruits to the experts.

I never had a problem with peaches or pears turning….just get them in freeze asap after cooking and mashing. If you have a problem you could try lemon juice first and if that does not work then the fruit fresh.

I made all my baby’s food and made pears and peaches and froze it and it never turned brown. I never added anything. If I added bananas it would brown but I just mixed it up and it was fine!

Even if it were to brown a little it’s not a big deal, it won’t harm your baby.
