At what age can baby have 2nd stage food like meat or chicken?

Posted by: Baby Food Grinder  /  Category: baby food questions

He is just now 6 months and I’ve started him on 2nd stage veggies and fruits, but I wasn’t sure how long I need to wait until I start with mixing meat in with his baby food. Thanks!

The Dr’s will say 9-10 months before their little tummies can handle the meats. Good luck!!

With my baby, i kept her on formula and rice cereal until about five months, that is when we began to give her first stage gerber food, we didnt give her 2nd stage food until about 9months. When she turned a year old, we stopped giving her gerbers all together and gave her food that we ate, i just made sure i blended it to make it safe for her to eat.

Around 6 or 7 months. We started my daughter on the simple veggies and fruits (in that order) when she was 4 months. A good rule is that once they have had all the individual ingredients in something, they can have the mix. Try Beechnut if you can find it. they have REALLY good simple dinners for babies. things like Pineapple ham and Apples and Chicken…..Beechnut does not have a lot of strange ingredients in them…..like the Turkey Vegetable dinner is turkey, carrots, green beans, and peas. Nothing odd. Some of the Gerber stuff has an extensive ingredient list.. I saved these more complex dinners (with lots of ingredients) til she was older. But by 9 months or so, she was starting to take ground foods, so she was pretty used to everything.
I would skip stage 3 foods……..they suck. they have chunks in them which are hard for babies to handle…..the make babies gag alot. Instead, once the baby is good with the thicker purees (the heavy stage 2) start grinding table food in baby food grinder. Once they are good at ground foods, you can move on to soft finger foods and increase gradually from there.

9 – 10 months is when you start them on 2nd stage foods. First you have to get them adjusted to the make up of foods. Babies digestive track is one of the last things to develop.
