You usually introduce cereal about 4 to 6 months and then foods from 6-8 months..it all depends on your childs developement and health issues if any..your doctor will know best

Start with baby cereal first, rice and oatmeal. Then move on to veggies and an avoid the fruits until well past their first birthday. This will help keep the sweet tooth from developing. Worked with my second child because we learned from our mistake with the first.

It is ok to give a 6 month old baby jar food. I have 2 boys (3 years old and 9 months old) and they both started on jar food at 5 months. It was a little difficult at first but then we both got the hang of it

my doctor told me when i asked that he wouldn’t tell me when to start but he would tell me that babies can start to handle solids at 4 months but in some cases they recomend you wait until 6 months at 6 months either way you can definitly start feeding your baby solids i started my son at 4 months and he loved it and in fact i fed it to him the same time everyday and if i ran out he would be fussy until i went and got some he knew the schedule and really enjoyed the solids

I just started my daughter at 5 months, with single grain rice and oatmeal, now she’s 6 months and eating vegetables, it doesn’t really matter if she gets fruits in or not, vegetables are more important.

Yes, but I have an invaluable tip for you in that regard.
Start the baby on pureed vegetables and keep them on veg until they are about 8 or 9 months of age. They will have a life long love of veggies and you will avoid years of struggling to get a healthy diet into them.
The veg should be supplemented with some formula too.

what my doctor told me to do was to get a box of baby cerial and mix it with her milk but to make it really runny and to just try and give her some with a spoon and if she starts the eating motion then to start feeding her baby food and that was around six to seven months

i start rice cereal at four months then start veggies and fruit. By seven to eight months I had my first two babies eating soft table food and drinking out of sippy cups during the day.

The right time isn’t based solely on your baby’s age. It’s based on physical and developmental signs of readiness. Ask your doctor if you have any questions.
Your baby may be ready if he:
Sits with support and has good head control, and
Has doubled his birth weight and weighs at least 13 pounds, and
Continues to be hungry after 8 to 10 breastfeedings, or drinks 32 oz. of formula in a day

Your baby will let you know when he/she is ready. My son and daughter both started grabbing food while sitting on my lap. My son’s first solid was nectarine that he yanked out of my hands at almost 6 months.
You can skip cereal, as it is highly processed and not very nutritous.

6 months is good. By then there stomachs are usually ready to digest it. Make sure you test each new food for a least 3 days, meaning you feed them only that food for that time to see if they have any sort of reaction to it. Usually baby cereal is fed first. Make sure you also feed veggies first and fruit only after you have gone through all of the veggies, it can cause the child to have a sweet tooth and want only the fruit. Trust me I did the fruit first and now I have a boy who will only eat fruit. Good luck it is a fun and exciting time.

My baby girl is just over 4 months old and I will be trying out rice cereal this week. Once they get used to that, I add a bit of smashed banana to that. Good luck!

Hi Lisa, thanks for the comment. I was wondering if 4 months is a bit young for banana? Apparently it takes a while to digest, so is good to eat in the evening as baby will last the night. But if baby eats banana during the day, she might not eat all her tea and wake in the night hungry? I just read this somewhere – not completely sure about it’s accuracy.
Cheers,

Like most parents, when our daughter turned 6 months, we started our daughter out with baby cereal (Happy Bellies) but soon progressed to pureed pumpkin.http://citybaby.posterous.com/babys-first-foods and then plain “regular” oatmeal. http://citybaby.posterous.com/not-a-spoonful-of-sugar.
Silken tofu figured (and still figures!) prominently into her early diet as did (and does) kefir and plain yogurt.
