Which food processor is the best to puree baby food?

Posted by: Baby Food Grinder  /  Category: baby food processor, baby food questions

I ‘d like to start making food for my 8 month old son. It will save money and most important I will be able to control the quality of food that goes into his tummy. But there are a lot of baby food processors and food mills out there. I don’t want to waste money buying some thing that will not do the job. Does any one have any experience preparing baby food at home?  Thank you.

I have a small Black and Decker Food processor just for baby food. It is 10 years old now! It works like the day we bought it for our son to make his baby food. It was put away 8 years ago- and pulled out last year- and is just like new.

OK, if your 8 month old son has teeth, any at all, or if he is able to eat the biter biscuits or that baby bread (I completely blanked on what it’s called) than you can buy a food mill.
They are so much cheaper and you will only be using it for about 3 months anyway. It’s a little bit of a pain because you can only do a little bit at a time.
I use a black and Decker food processor for my baby food. But at 8 months, your little one can probably chew a little bit and you can start just mashing boiled, (cooled completely!!) food and mixing it with cereal. The small texture will help train the baby to chew also. Start with peeled apples, cut into sections. Boil into oblivion and mash. Cool the mashed apples. Serve with cereal. See what happens.
If your child doesn’t like it, buy a food processor, but I think a food mill or a fork will do it.
    Good luck!

Just a word of advice – at 8 months your baby will want to start self feeding very soon. You might want to start giving him small pieces of the foods you are making for him.

So I recommend an inexpensive hand blender as you won’t be pureeing for much longer!

because you are only making small amounts at a time
I would use a black & Decker Handy Chopper Plus it works great.

I have a Proctor Silex mini/small. I have made all my own baby food for both my kids (now 3.5 and 14 mo.) and I actually figured it up one month and it was saving me about $70!!!! There’s a book you should get (if you don’t already have it) called "Super Baby Food" it’s amazing! It has pretty much everything in it, the age you should introduce it, how to prepare it, etc. Also has liquid intake.

I don’t use any special baby anything. The baby industry and advertising is so in this one. I use my regular food processor and/or blender. I also premake extra and freeze them in ice cube tray already baby sized small portions and put thm in zip locs. Just make sure if you steam veggies to not steam too long to lose nutrients and cut them up small as possible easier/quicker to blend. Also if too thick use infant water to thin but at 8 mos you can start leaving little chunks in.

There are many books for baby foods and recipies check your local library. Happy blending.

Regular stick blender did it for me, it only needs to be very smooth for a short time then a potato masher then just self feeding small finger sized bits. don’t waste money on anything special to process food, your bub will soon be out of smooth food

i had a moulinex processor but most blenders you can get are cheap enough or you can do it the old fashioned way and strain through a sieve .The most important thing is you are going to be doing it . Lots of food can be frozen and i used to do the ice cube method small enough portions and not much waste you just add another cube of food as baby is demanding more .Stewed apple and other fruits are ideal in this method , You can when baby is old enough to have stews and hot pots blend them and then freeze . No excuse to buy tins and you always have a supply to take away .

I think if you are a mother who attends paeditricians you will know how to prepare food for your child, you dont need to go and buy those food processors for your child to me its a waste of money.

There is a Kid Co. one at Target or you can go to Walmart and pick up one of the Black and Decker small processors. This will also work as you allow more chunky food…. and will be useful even after the baby food stage is done for salsa, chopping up chicken salad, etc. I believe in multi-purpose products and this one has been with me for over 7 years and have used it for both kids and my salsas!!

I have a magic bullet, you know like the one on T.V. It was about $35 and it is the most amasing tool for making homemade baby food. Its perfect for making small batches of food for 2 or 3 feeds however if you were hoping to make very large batches its not the best idea. Its fast and easy and unlike larger food processors the clean up is quick and easy. Also it comes with lids so you can just throw a lid on the container and put it straight into the fridge. I swear it was made for making baby food!

i got my food processor for $8 from Wal-greens.
i would bake apples, pears, peaches, potatoes, carrots, brocolli, squash, etc. and then cut it up into chunks, and put it into the processor and push the button until it was a consistency that was good for my baby.
you can even stew pasta and chicken youself and put it in the processor. make sure the pasta is cooked til it’s very soft; and then your baby can have chicken noodle soup :)

but, at 8 months, your baby should be getting ready for table food, so i definitely wouldn’t spend too much money on a processor at this point.

    God Bless.

prepared my son’s food at home from the beginning (probably when he was about 3 1/2 to 4 months old) until he was 11 months. my son was breastfed, and did not have any jar food or processed food.

I use a regular blender. U dont have to go n spend so much money on a food processor cuz soon the baby will eat regular food. I make some food for my 8 month everyday since he was 5 months. first I boil some water add a piece of chicken, beef, turkey. no pork then i cut up 1 carrot, celery, potato, string beans…etc add a lil flavor of salt very lil for taste n put int he blender add some of the boiling water. makes it puree. Try to change the veggies every other day. once in a while add noodles or stars (pasta). He will love it.
