Was a baby food mill/grinder useful for you?

Posted by: Baby Food Grinder  /  Category: baby food grinder, baby food questions

I have a 7 month old baby, and we do a lot of traveling around the countryside of China. Do you think a food mill would be useful for me? Also, how long would I need to grind up my baby’s food for? For example, when the baby is one year old, do they still need their food grind up? I’m just wondering if it’s a good investment. Thanks for giving me advice.

No, I just used a regular blender to make my own baby food.

When my daughter was a baby, I would eventually grind the food less and less so that it had more texture to it instead of being totally pureed. By the time she was 1, she was eating solid foods.

I had one, but it was because my son only like fresh foods, he hated baby food. He wanted spices to, he still won’t eat anything that is bland like baby food. By the time your baby is 1 they will not need it ground up, you can just mash it up with a fork. I wouldn’t buy a special food mill for baby food, but you could just use any regular blender too for the grinding, it only takes a few seconds.

Yes! I absolutely loved mine–was worth every penny. I liked knowing exactly what was in my baby’s food and we saved a ton on baby food. I used mine til each of my four boys until 12-15 months (getting a thicker consistency as they got older). They aren’t that expensive and I would highly recommend giving it a try. Good luck to you and baby!

What I found to be far more useful is a little mesh contraption sold at stores like walmart or target. It looks like a pacifier with a mesh bag on one end instead of a nipple, and it opens. You can put pretty much anything into it, such as a bit of baked potato, a bit of frozen fruit, or whatever, and baby just chomps on it safely and can eat whatever mushes up through the mesh. I highly recommend it. You can use frozen fruit then if he’s teething, as well, and he won’t choke on it.
